What happens to fafsa money after the semester is over?

Question:I have heard both sides some people say you get to keep it and others say you never see it again but you can use it on almost anything that the school sells laptops printers schools supplies. so if you can use it on anything like that would you not just get to keep it? or should i go get a new laptop?

Answers:
at my school and all others that i have heard f once your bill is fully covered you get a check in the mail. you can spend it on what ever you want not just school stuff. personally mine is coming in september and i'm paying off my credit cards and throwing all but two away. that way they will stop building interest every month and i can save the extra money and pay off the loans in the 6 month grace period and not have to pay any more interest on them. my cousin used hers one year to help pay for a car. if you don't need a new laptop then don't get one. save the money and use it for something important ie. rent fixing your car, a new computer if your breaks.
Your school should give you a refund check after you have used the available money to cover educational charges such as tuition, fees, room and board. It is yours to keep. However, if you have a loan, you would need to pay back this money once you drop below half time (usually six hours or less), you withdraw from school, or you graduate.
Yeah, they are right. After your classes are paid for, you get to keep the remainding amount. You will get a check in the mail and can use it on whatever you want. :)
