You need to talk to the department of education to get out of that defaulted status. They are very willing to work with you, just set up a payment plan and start. Once you get going you should be able to get more money for your college, but don't be surprised if it doesn't happen right away.
If your loan is in default then there is no way you will get more aid until you get caught up or get the defaulted loan paid in full. Clearly states it on the FAFSA site - you will have to contact the department of education and get back on track and out of default then maybe they might give you more aid.
