Question:Hi, back in 06, I was mislead by Sallie Mae through the consolidation process (another story all together) and long story short, I have did not consolidated my stafford loans. It equals to about 22k. My question is, since I am extremely dissatified with Sallie Mae's service and dishonesty so far - can I switch to another company now and maybe consolidate at a later time?

Yes you can consolidate anytime. You can get up to four competing offers for student loan consolidations at finfo.com with no obligation. I would also check out financialaid.com or talk to a banker at Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo is known for doing a lot of student lending.
There is no legal obligation to stick with Sallie Mae. In a loan consolidation they get paid by whoever takes over the loan. Sallie Mae will just miss out on future interest income from your loan.

good luck, i also hate sallie mae, and i am in the act of charging my loan to a interest free credit card, its only 4k though. if it is a federal loan you could try to switch it to AES(i have a larger one with them), i think the rate is about 6% instead of Sallie's butt raping 10.25, hope this helps and good luck!
