Get a federal loan! I'm up the same creek and it saved my life!
Private loans, there are hundreds of websites out there.
Try Salliemae.com
My kids get their loans without a co-signer easily!
I don't know if there are any places where they'll lend students money basically on their own recogniscence. I mean, just ask yourself if you would trust a total stranger, especially a student, who was probably not going to be able to promise to pay you back for some time into the future anyway. I know I wouldn't.
I know it has to be a tough problem, especially for those people who are honest and would never dream of welching on a debt of honor. But unfortuntely many students duck out of their obligation and leave their co-signatur stuck with the repayment, and the person who is lending the money in the first place is only really interested in one thing. HE doesn't want to be the one who gets shafted. I do wish you luck though.
For the federal loan there are both subsidized and unsubsidized loans...and you can defer both until after graduation or less than full time etc...go to your financial aid office because they will have the most information and point you in the right direction.
I've always tried to get a loan from Sallie Mae but they wanted me to have a cosigner...and like you, my mom as horrible credit and I don't have anyone I can ask.
Good luck and talk to financial aid!
you can go to sallie mae, but i warn you, you will hate them with a passion, so make them your absolute last resort
