I really want to go to college and better my life so I'll have more opportunities when I go out into the work force.
I don't know where to begin and since we are a one-income household, money IS an issue. I don't know anything about financial aide...But I DO know about grants - money I wouldn't have to pay back (lol).
I know that I do want to do distance learning but I am not sure about the accreditation of some colleges who claim to offer online courses.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

A friend of mine got her degree online through The University of Phoenix. Give them a call, they will help you with all your financial aid.
I'm doing a distance learning program from Penn Foster, training to be a vet assistant. I work in my free time and the course info is excellent! I couldn't have chosen a better school! The cost of the program is between 7 and 8 hundred dollars, depending on payment options. I pay $39 a month. This scholl is really great and they offer a lot of different courses. My husband is working w/ PCDI, they arn't well organized. I wouldn't use that school. We've been waiting for the 2 day express mail for his 1st shipment of materials for almost 3 weeks and he can't get any answers of where his stuff is. hope this was helpful.
You need a program with accreditation- see CHEA, or even about.com for info on this. It needs to be one of the 6 bodies, nothing else is a college degree with transferable credits.
A recognized online college will help you with financial aid and applying. Cross check- for example, Phoenix and North Central are accredited- if you check with the accrediting body itself, you'll find this. I haven't taken their courses, just an example.
Beware of any "experience" degrees. While some schools offer elective credit for this, there is no such thing as an 'experience only' degree. For an example of what a real accredited school offers, check out cuny.edu and look at their online bachelor's.
