Question:Is there anyway at all to get our being a dependent of your parents when it comes to finacial aid. I havent lived with my parents..nor do they supply me with any money. However i am only 19. Is there a way i can use my income only...or am i forced to still use my parents...( i hardly even communicate with them)
Answers:
Unless you have some mitigating circumstance as to why you don't have contact with your parents that you can substantiate with third-party documents (preacher, counselor, psychiatrist, social worker, etc.), you will not be able to appeal for independent status. Additionally, your appeal would have to be because of abuse or neglect. If that is your situation, make an appointment with a financial aid officer for instructions on how to appeal. Good luck.
You can use your own but your parents cant claim you on taxes nemore and youd have to get your own health, car, dental, ect.
I found interesting information & options here. Good luck!
