Also this is school year 2007-2008, if I take a summer class in 2008 is that taken out of this years grant money or 08-09 grant??
Answers:
Are you a full time student this semester? That could be the reason that your split isn't 50/50. I am only taking 10 credits, so I'm not a full time student. My total grant money for this semester is about 40% of my total, and if I enroll full time next semester I will get the remaining 60%. The amount of the pell grant you receive each semester is based upon the number of credit hours you are taking, meaning part time vs full time.
Summer is part of this school year. If you want money left for the summer semester, just make sure you don't spend all your other aid and put away enough to cover the summer semester.
Good luck!
Pell Grants are split into whatever academic semesters your school has--typically two. In other words, you don't get all the grant money in one semester. If you did, you wouldn't have funds for subsequent semesters. If you need additional funds for the semester you can talk to your school's financial aid office about subsidized and/or unsubsidized loans.
As far as a summer 08 class, it depends on when your course starts. The 08-09 award year begins July 08. If your class begins before that time it will fall in the 07-08 award year.
as with the loans and grants-you apply for each YEAR not the entire course(if its a 2 yr course-you renew your application next year) so if the money went to your school and it was over the amount they need-you will be sent the rest in a few weeks-whatever the school doesn't use is yours for books and stuff you need to get the most out of your education. Now if you applied for grants and loans and selected to accept only the amount needed for tuition and not the maximum you qualify for-then you will not get anything and if what you got was not enough to cover tuition then expect a bill. The government goes on your age-if you are under the age of 24 then you get less than if you are over 24 yrs old-the government considers you dependant on your folks until the age of 24.
well lets say you pell grant was $2000 for the year..
1st semester you only get $750... and it says 2nd semester $1000 this could only because you are not schedule as a full time, instead of taking 12 credits your only taking 9... your financial aid grant for the first semester will be less because your not full time.. then if u still take 9 credits in your 2nd semester the grant will also change to 750. your aid package is for the entire year.. so they would break it up 50/50 assuming you were a full time student.. the summer semester can only be paid from financial grant if there is any money left over from your 2007-2008 year... when you fill out the FAFSA again in janurary its for 2008-2009 starting in the fall. doesnt sound like u will have enough left over since u still need more for fall 2007.. make sure your fulltime or you will get less $$$ and if you need more take out a stafford loan from your school.
