Using private student loans to pay for apartment?

Question:Hi, I am going back to school in the fall and I am currently unemployed. I Have an apartment and would like to keep it for the next year to finish out at the community college and then transfer out of the area. Is it possible to get a loan to cover the apartment and associated bills (water, electric, etc)?

Answers:
All financial aid, whether it be grants, scholarships, or loans, are used to pay for associated tuition, fees, room, board, books, and supplies, and personal expenses as part of the Cost of Attendance.

As long as you are going to school at least half time, you would be able to use your loan for your living expenses.

You will want to talk to your financial aid officer to see how much/what type of loans you would want to apply for (Stafford and/or private).

Good luck!
It is commendable that you want to continue all your education but really, don't you think that by the time you get an answer about any grant or loan you would be in deep arrears in your apt rent. You must get a paying job to handle this kind of thing. You have enough worriment without adding the suspense of paying back (even if you get it) what is owed on the loan. Check your priorities.

It is possible--but your best bet is NOT to get a private loan. Fill out your FAFSA.

You'll probably qualify for grants/subsidized and unsubsidized loans if you or your parents (if you're under 25 and unmarried) aren't rich. If you really can't get any of these loans/grants then try for the private loan.

Fincancial aid looks at how much the following things will cost you: tuition, registration & other fees, books & supplies, housing allowance (that would be your apartment and associated bills), travel allowance, and sometimes other costs. You can take out a private loan, up to the full cost of school, or your unmet need.

They aren't going to take your specific apartment costs into account, but they give everyone an estimate. Look at the community colleges website for the "cost of attendance" and you'll see how much they allot off campus students for housing. Any of your financial aid money that isn't going to tuition or fees will be refunded to you to spend on books/supplies and to ration out for housing until your refund next term.

Yes, private student loans are sent directly to you and can be used for housing.
The best thing to do is compare the different private lenders out there, which can be done at http://www.finaid.org/loans/privatestude...
Most of the rates are very similar but do a little research and pick one that you think is best. I would suggest Think Financial. The application process is very quick and easy, and the check is sent directly to you so you can use the money for whatever you want. The limits are much higher with private student loans, up to $40,000 per year. You can find out more information about a Think loan at http://www.thinkfinancial.com . Good Luck.
