Student Aid help EFC wrong?

Question:i'm trying to go back to school with a late start and i just finished my fafsa and my expected family contribution is 6445 i live alone my parents live in another state and i didn't even put them on my fafsa (i'm 23) i only make 23,000 a year...

i don't know what to do, i can't take out anymore loans i already have enough from screwing up before.i really want to go back to school.i can totally do it.but i don't believe i'll get much aid due to my efc and my late start on applying.can anyone give me any good info on what to do aid wise, how get more and how to get back into it?

Answers:
if you are only 23 and are not married you are still considered a dependent, regardless if your parents help you with your schooling or not. that is where they got your EFC. you can talk to your financial aid office to see if you can submit a letter stating your situation. sometimes they can adjust your award that way. as for not wanting to take loans, you might have to. check out fastweb.com for scholarship info you may be eligible for. did you make more last year? because if now you make less than you did before that could be another reason for the higher EFC. your late start will also be a hinderance because there isnt as much fed aid available now than there was around the deadline time in Feb for this fall. You may just have to deal with it this year and hope next year it works itself out, especially if you are turning 25 next year (dont know when your birthday is). Good luck and keep pressing on. You can complete your education.
