If your parents income is part of the FAFSA application, they must sign as well. For students using parents information, it is highly recommeded they get a FAFSA pin of thier own so they can sign electronically. Yes, there are deadlines for FAFSA. While you can fill out and submit the form any time during the year, most colleges have deadlines for finacial aide submissions for the fall semester. These are usually sometime in Feb. and March. Rule of thumb...the earlier you get your application in, the better your chances are of getting grants, scholorships from the schools and federal loans. All of these forms of aide have limited funds and go to a first come, first qualify basis.
if u are under the age of 24 and live with Ur parents u still need Ur parents taxes and sign.
Your parents shouldn't have to sign anything unless you are getting a parent plus loan. I filled out the fafsa, and I don't recall my parents having to sign it. As far as I know, there is no due date, but it's best to get it in by midsummer (like right now at the latest) so it gets processed in time to disburse the money to your school when the fall semester starts. I also heard that there is a limited number of grants available, so you should get your fafsa in asap to have a better chance of getting one.
If you are under the age of 24, you are considered a "dependent" student. Unless... you are married, you support a child with more than half of their financial support, you are a veteran of the armed forces, you are on active duty in the military, or you are an orphan/ward of the court. So, if you are under 24, you will need your parent's information on the FAFSA. The Dept of Education requires this, even if you do not live with them. So, if you did sign the FAFSA with your PIN, your should have your parent apply for a PIN as well. If they don't, your FAFSA will be rejected and the school should notify you that you are missing a signature. Your parent will then have the option of signing a "signature page", but it is much quicker to have them apply for and receive the electronic PIN.
Then, as a Dependent, your parent will most likely have to apply for a PLUS loan. If they are denied for that loan, you will be eligible for more federal loans. So, if they don't have good credit, it can actually help you receive more in federal loans... believe it or not!
good luck!
If you used your parent's information, i.e. taxes and income information, then your parent needs to sign the FAFSA as well. Typically they can do this by printing out the signature page, signing it and then mailing it in, or if the parent has a Department of Education PIN, then they can sign electronically with that number.
Each state determines their own deadline for the FAFSA and some individual Universities or colleges have their own deadlines.
