A student loan is your best option. I would suggest you call your prospective university and obtain some information about a student loan, you do not pay it back in the UK until you are in full time employment earning 15K a year or more.
There are options such as part time study, then you can work part time too, although it would take longer to earn your degree.
Please do not worry, there is a lot of financial support out there for people wanting to further their education. The university student body will be able to assist you, or if you are in the UK then go to the Citizens Advice Bureau they will have lots of information. Make an appointment to see someone at you can as they may be able to assist too.
Good luck and well done for wanting to further yourself.
Are you sure your not entitled to a grant? i think you can get a student loan to go uni! it's avaliable to everyone!
Well you could always fill out the FAFSA form for financial aid and contact the college of your choice to see if they offer assistance (if it is a cal state ask about EOP). ALso you could search for scholarships at fastweb.com and look into getting loans.
You have the following options;
-get a job
-take out a student loan
-apply for a bursary
-The university will also have something called 'access to learner funds' for people with financial hardship ...
Of course you can afford to go uni. Even if after being assessed, your parents are deemed to earn too much for you to receive any grants you can now get students loans to pay for the course fees - which you start paying for once you graduate. And you will be entiteld to loans to cover living expenses. And you could work part time (e.g. weekends) to earn a little more income.
The onyl thing that is stopping you from attending uni really is whether you want the big debts after you graduate? But bear in mind the amount you pay back once you start working is really not that much!!
Not entitled to a grant. Then, someone is pulling your leg. Meanwhile, you can get student loans. The downside is that you must pay them back once you graduate. That is a long gruelling bill. I know, paid my for 10 years and finally paid them off.
So, what are your parents doing to help. Do they make too much money? Are they helping any?
If not, then you can go to the Finanacial Aids Office and declare Parental Abandonment. It is a process where you must prove your case, but it is worth your education. Once you won your claim, then you should have available all the financial assistance you need.
Rob a bank....
not everyone can get a grant.for those of us who can't, we get a student loan, because practically everyone is approved for one from one company or another. Plus you can probably get scholarships. Grants are most commonly given to people closer to the welfare level in terms of financial need.
I was in the same boat as you. You need to contact your local student finance section, mines is Tower Hamlets. You tell them you want to go to University, the will send you an application form. You will get a grant of £1000, depending on your circumstances, ie living on your own or parents. Tuition fee is usually near £3000, but as everone here is saying you will need to get a student loan. Which I have got. You need to hurry becasue you have very little time left. Any probs contact me.
Can you add extra information? what course are you looking to do, how old are you? Do you already have a degree? Is it the fees of the course itself or living cost that concern you?
There are lots of charities and bursaries and different modes of study that are not widely known in the mainstream.
There are also options to study part time and still work in the day time at some universities and for some courses.
Certain criteria of students can still get some benefits whilst studying.
There is always, always a way.
Can u give some more details as to your situation and choice of course?
