I think society puts so much pressure now a days on young people to be perfect. I'd like to say I've not caved in from the pressure, but I have. For me, I feel like I HAVE to get into the best university I possibly can next year. With a good college on your job application, it enables you to get farther. My parents also want me to get into a top tier school, and have me working a 7 day school week next year, with saturday classes and SAT prep courses. I don't mind, because it will pay out in the end. I think everybody in this time, want to reach the top, and feel the pressure of competing with millions of other secondary students in their country.
I have to agree with you. I don't remember that much stress when I was that age.
It's true. I'm under so much pressure. I made A's and B's (and a C in English...), and now my mom forced me to be in all Pre-AP classes (which I don't even know if I can handle), and I feel like it's not good enough. There's so much competition in my school. I think it's because now everyone knows the importance of college, and a lot more people are trying to get in. People think that they'd rather go to better schools (and more expensive...) because when people ask, they can say, "Oh, I went to Harvard."
I think it depends on the person. I graduated high school in 05 and a lot of my high school classmates were worried about not getting into a 'good college' they did all these things they absolutely hated just so they could write them on their admissions application. I didn't decide that I even wanted to go to college until I was a senior in high school and all of my friends were like 'where are you going?!' So I decided to put my application in at one school, if I got in cool, if not, oh well no biggie. I ended up getting in, so now I'm going to college, and most of the students who tried so hard for good grades and extra curricular activities have dropped out, or been kicked out because of excessive partying and low exam scores.
Its because the kids in this generation are the more coddled then in any other generation. Its because they have never learned responsibility, they think if somthings too hard. Don't do it. Hoping everything good will be given to them. And depending on the person they may say " Oh woop-de-doo I failed. Maybe i'll study"(and they never do) Or "Oh my god! i got a b! I'm a failure in life. I will never get into that university!"
But if you're getting above average with some extra curriculars and a university is looking at you over a person with no extra curriculars/ less extra curriculars they will think you're the better one because you do work faster and better then the other and have extra time if you don't finish it in a certain amount of time. And some students do put too much pressure on themselves because they think if they get just a A- average and not a A+ they may not get into the university they wanted. because more people are getting higher grades trhese days
