How can I learn to "think" in French?

Question:I always just translate back and forth between French and English in my head. I can't force myself into thinking my thoughts in French; I always start with English, translate to french in my head, and then speak.

Answers:
I don't have a magic bullet solution -- just practice and study. It helps if you are actually speaking with French people as they will look at you like you're an arsse when you mess up, and their snotty condescending attitude will be a good reinforcer to help you avoid making the same mistake.
When French becomes what English is now to you.
Surround yourself by as much french as possible. Play movies in French. Around your house, get french books, etc. You will start adapting to your new atmosphere, which will be all French, and your brain will start to program into it. It might take a while.
