i am currently in an International Baccalaureate (IB) program
i would like to know if i have to do anything like volunteer, take certain tests, etc. to start my journey in becoming a successful med student/premed student and hopefully a doctor
also, i was considering UAB for next year...good choice?

my dad's a doctor.
it's really hard, and busy. he never gets any sleep. he has to wake up at 3 am and hurry to the hospital. you should read a lot of books. my dad has 5 bookshelves of medical books. sorry i don't know much, cuz i don't want to become a doctor. but if you need more info i can ask my dad.
Why don't you just speak with your guidance councilor? That's what they are there for.
I'd say talk to your school counselor and ask him or her for advice on what subjects or extracurricular activities you should be involved in. Also, ask for advice on what college or university you should attend to prepare you for a career in medicine. Good luck!

Medicine is a gratifying career choice. But it is a long journey.
American Medical Schools are keenly interested in Collegiate level academic performance. Additionally, many will also require evidence that the candidate is well rounded.
Most major American Universities have Pre-Medical programs and the best information can be had by talking directly to the the university in question (such as UAB)
Also contact the medical Schools in your area and have them provide you with information.
