I took a fall class one year...and Im not officially going back until next year when I will be turning 21 a month after school starts. I will be 3 years older than all the other freshman...but I doubt I will look any older than the people Im around.
There are people in their 30's and 50's that go to college and start off in basic classes just like you. Nobody really says anything about it.
But for being 20 in freshman classes, dont worry! You wont have anyone really ask your age until after your've probably built closer relationships. And if they do ask your age, tell them your 20. They arent going to stop talking to you when you say your age.they dont really care.
But I agree with other people, some might try to be your close friend just so you'll bring drinks to parties when your the big 2-1!
Have fun in college and join some extra activities...whether it be a sport, a social group, or go greek! Oh, and going greek is a good way to form a close bond with other people and it does look good on resumes where some high officials might be in the same greek affliation as you were in. It would help you get the job.
Oh and if you are worried about hazing, most greek orgs dont do it...at the college in my town they have an anti-hazing law and the greek orgs even let you know that they dont do hazing and it is NOT tolerated.
Have fun in college!
There will be plenty of people your age and older. I didn't start college until I was 26 and didn't have any problems.
no, nowadays there are all age groups in college. youll fit right in.
As long as you don't mind being called Mom.
Nah, you will probably have to do some babysitting when they get all wasted at their first big parties though.
Also when you're 21 you'll be their savior in the dorms.
Probably a little, but it will allow you to focus more on your studies.
You"ll be so popular in a year,
because then you can buy beer!
I was a freshman at 22, so I know what your going through. Believe it or not, no one will really notice. Although, once you turn 21, everyone will invite you to the party (so you can buy), and that gets old quick. Your only talking about a few years difference, and not all freshman are 18. I had a freshman in my class who was in her 50's. No one cares about age once you get into college.
Everyone goes to college at different ages. Don't be worried because people still end up going to college when they are like 35! You will not feel out of place as long as you get involved and don't treat your age difference as if something is wrong. Good Luck!
At the age of "20", I'm sure you still look as young as the average 18 year old. If this is still a problem, then check out the bullentin boards for activities, that someone your age might be interested in.
(Good Luck in your Studying!)
Good job and don't tell anyone your age.
If you do, they''ll look at you in a really funny way.
Obviously that means lie about your age from day one untill you leave that college.
You will find your place.
Good luck and congrats!!
I wouldnt think so.
I'm still trying to get a certain person to go to college and he's 20 too... By the time I convince him he could be 30. lol
No, i am 28yo and i am planning on going back to college.i don't think that you will feel out of place.People are trying to get there education they aren't paying any attention to you.If they do, they have too much time on there hands.Tell them to take more classes.
You shouldn't. There are people of all ages at college. I remember I had a friend that was two years older than anyone in our grade. He was the nicest person I have ever met. He never felt out of place because he had lots of friends. And if you do feel out of place, then hang with other people. You don't only have to have freshman friends.
When i went to college i went right out of high school (total mistake) to a tech school and there were few ppl my age most were older it's more common like that nowadays. Don't be nervous about that just concentrate in class more than i did and you'll do fine.
Mostly, you won't. But if ever you do, try to ignore the feeling. As long as you're getting along well with others you won't have any problems. :)
you'll be amazed how many older students taking freshman classes its no big deal, u wont feel out of place trust me have a good time dude
No, you guys are around the same age anyway. And, for the record, not all freshmen are 18. They range in age.
Don't mind it. They will never know you're 20 unless you tell them.
Age won't really matter for as long as you know how to mingle.
Nothing to worry,These days it's quite normal as many leave their studies due to personal reasons.
Feel free and enjoy college life
A 20 year old freshman is not strange at all. There will actually be much older people in your classes.
You might feel odd at first, but in all likelihood, no one will know how old you really are unless you tell them. I'm not saying you should hide your age, but you don't have to disclose it if you don't want to. Two years is not a huge age difference, so you probably won't feel that strange. In fact, your age could be an advantage to you, as you'll be mature and possibly more decisive about choosing classes and a major.
2 years is not a big deal at all! You'll be fine.
It should be mixed up. I have classes with 18 year old and 40-50. I'm 22. College has a different vibe, you will see the 18 years will be the ones more to slack and be goofy there kinda still in HS world, and the adults paying for school are there to better themselves.
you shouldnt im 18 in freshmen classes and i see 30 and 40 year olds in my classes
