I need help brainstorming for my college essay?

Question:I am now in my senior year of highschool and the dreaded college essay appears in my nightmares :) However on a serious note, I don't have much ideas, actually none at all. I'm thinking about writing on my volunteer experiences: dealing with patients who have alzheimers, meeting with doctors of all types, and watching surgeries in the OR room(it was awesome btw). Any ideas on how i could get started? A friend suggested the question, "What makes you unique?" But this just confused me even more. THanks :-]

Harvard.here i come!! lol

and one more question.
My brother went to Cornell does that mean i might have a higher chance to get in?
thanks

You brother is a visiting professor? Is not he? If not, well, you should not expect any changes, poor one.

Try to start with lyirics. Like, you vision of death, mortality and life cycle. It will show you philosophical background, if any. But do not get involved with abstract ideas.

Then go on to the death from deseases. Give some simple statistics. Do not get to envolved with stats. Just show your analytycal skills in discussing trends and show your data mining abilities. Do this right after the bit of general lyrics.

After that, move on to you own experience with medical care. Put empasize on doctors responsibility. At this point the reader will be happy to here a word about your personality. Tell you reader, that you will take pride if it happens that you become a doctor. (HELL NO!)

In the end of your essay you may give your own opinion on the
future of medical care and express vague hopes in possible qualitative shifts. Be optimistic but do not go to far.

That is it. The very essence. Write five separate paragraphs for a start - some 250-300 words would be OK.

If your need more help, I will meet your again after death.
Volunteering at a hospital essays tend to be pretty overused these days. I'd guess at least 1 out of every 4 essays is a hospital volunteer essay. Write about something that you think only you have experienced and just essentially free-write and edit later. That's what I did for my Harvard essay and I don't know if it was because of the essay, but I got in (though not enough scholarships to make me want to go). Though I did write about volunteering at a hospital for Stanford and got nada.

If your brother got in and has been doing well, it does help you but not too much.
