What documents are required to enroll in a college or university?

Question:1) Do I need a Social Security, or is an ID number Okay?
2) Or can I use a Tax ID number as social security number? Because I don't have a Social Security number.
3) Or does a community college require a social security number?

Answers:
Most campuses will want a SSN, for whatever reason, however they cannot require that from you since that is between you and the Social Security Administration. Some will take a TIN, and again that is between you and the IRS. You will probably need identification, like a driver's license, birth certificate, state ID, or passport to enroll.

Don't count on the campus knowing that they have no business asking for your SSN, or even knowing what a TIN is. Get an SSN.
i was never asked to show ID; I just gave them
my ssn an name and address.

they only use it for filing purposes.

if you had to, invent a logical number.
