I am a Registered nurse, so I would give you answer according to my experience. I am greatful to people who guided me towards the right path.
Ok, so you want to be a Registered Nurse. After high school, go to a Junior or community college and finish off your G.E reguirements for Nursing and take other courses to complete Associate degree. It shouldn't take you more than 2 to 3 years if you go full time. After completing 2 or 3 years of G.E, apply to 3 or more colleges, not Universities for Rn Program. There might be some wait...may be months to one year or may be no wait. It would take you 2 more years before you become a RN.
Now the reason why I told you like this-
If you go straight to a University, its expensive. Do not and I repeat, do not go to a private university. Do not try to cut your way and go staright to a 2 year diploma program. Nursing school is tough. You would be better off taking GE courses and then go into nursing program. When I started my nursing program, we started off with 40 students. Only half graduated.
If you follow the way I have told you, you won't have any loans on your back. And after getting your RN degree, you canb go back to finish off BSN and and your hospital will pay for it.
Sometimes nurses go staright into BSN thinking they would be better off. But hospitals don't pay you more for having a BSN with your RN degree. You end up with loans.
BSN is good if you want to go into teaching.
E-mail if you have more questions. I would be happy to help.
Don't forget, Junior colleges give Financial Aid. I didn't have to pay a penny for my nursing school. My friends who went to Private are still paying off their loans.
I do not know about orlando, but FAU has an amazing nursing program. if your willing to move south, no prior degree required
