Chemical Engineers are often given plenty of opportunity to travel internationally, and when discussing chemical engineering data and principles most participants will share a single vocabulary (English). However building relationships will also be an important part of your work and learning the language of the country you are visiting is a great idea.
If you are already an English speaker you will already be able to converse in many countries with strong chemical engineering industries, but developing your language portfolio to include Mandarin, Cantonese, Malaysian or Indian will open many more doors for you. Arabic would also be a good addition, particularly if you would like to work in the Oil and Gas or Petroleum sectors.
To help you decide you could read up a bit more about which sector of chemical engineering you’d like to move into (some countries are particularly strong in certain sectors) and find out which countries are expanding their chemical engineering activities and therefore looking for more professionals.
Japanese.
Maybe learn Spanish or Mandarin Chinese, two languages that are widely spoken (China has the most people so their language is popular by default).
depends where you live and where you wana work abroad...
i say, french, japanese, korean or spanish. all impacted languages with good opportunities abroad. or spanish in the US, respectively. or arabic. which you can use with french and english to work in africa and most of the middle east.
It all depends on where you want to live. I would start with English. Learn that one first before you start expanding your vocabulary to other languages. Spanish is spoken in several different countries. If you want to go to some Middle Eastern country you would need to learn Arabic. Or you could learn Chinese. English is the dominant business language that is spoken all over the world.
