its good that you are starting by now! i am going to give CAT this yr, getting into IIMs is tough job, you have to aim for 98 percentile and above.
For that competency in all three sections is necessary, QA, VA, DI and DS.
For QA, start with your fundas, start with your 9th and 10th standard maths books. polish up your fundas and then start solving questions from materials provided by your coaching institution(if you get into one), otherwise do it from maths Books for MBA purposes( M tyra is good, Quantitative Aptitude by Arun sharma is great!) don't forget to learn a few tricks from vedic maths!
For VA, do a lot crosswords, read a lot with the dictionary by your side, brush up your grammar, and read the editorials of the leading newspapers.
For DI and DS, just practise quick calculations, you have to learn how to interpret graphs as quickly as possible and calculate large calculations in the minimum amount of time.
CAT pattern changes everytime, its 75 questions in 2 and half hours now, so you can spend a maximum of 2 minutes for each question, so you have to time your practise
:)
hope it helped you.
