Best east coast colleges?

Question:I live in CA and I'm thinking about going to college on the east coast. My dad is set on having me stay here though unless I can find a school that has a good reputation and would give me a great education for the same amount a west coast school would. He doesn't see why I would want to move when I could get the same education here, but I'm just bored here! I know it sounds kind of picky but I love to travel and I'd like to live somewhere else. Any advice?
For a major I'm thinking either Psychology or something history related because I like to travel and help people too.

Answers:
Basically, any east coast four-year college or university will give you a more-than-competent undergraduate education in psychology and history. They all hire profs with PhDs for upper-division courses in the major. When you look at graduate programs you'll need to be more picky, but just about any undergrad program will do as long as you get good grades and establish good relationships with faculty, get recommendation letters, sign up for internships and extracurriculars, etc.

On average, higher education on the east coast is slightly more expensive overall, given that the cost of living is higher. But California isn't cheap either, so you might not notice much of a difference. Tuition is higher for out-of-state students, but you could quickly establish residency in the state where you go to college.

If your dad's footing the bill, his opinion matters. But going to college is one of the best excuses for getting out to see the world. On the other hand, the distance from family and friends tends to hit first-year students pretty hard... there's a lot of loneliness until you build up a new support network.

History related in a California school? I live in Natick, MA founded in 1651 - In 1651, Van Nuys or Santa Barbara was pretty much scrub brush back then.
