What's college really like?

Question:How much studying do you do a day or per class especially if you are a pharmacy major? What's it like living in a dorm? Is it easy making friends? What's the best activities to get involved in? Should I get a job? I'm open to any and all advice. Just please don't say all you do is have sex and party.

Answers:
I'm not a pharmacy major, but seriously, this rule seems to apply to just about every major: for every hour you spend in class, you should spend two hours outside of class. I'm a psychology and women's and gender studies double major and I spend between 6-7 hours per day studying which isn't so bad.

Living in the dorm can be super fun, for a while it seems like one giant slumber party. If there is something that you are set on (i.e. no alcohol in the room, etc.) make sure that you make a "room contract" with your roommate. I think most schools do that anyway now. Most people in your dorm are looking for friends too, especially your first year...if you are just hanging in your room leave your door open, it makes you seem friendly and you might meet your new best friend. haha. My roommate from last year is still my best friend.

As far as activities, get involved in one or two things to start with, your first semester of college will be overwhelming enough. Find an organization/activity that your passionate about...you can find almost any activity on most college campuses. Also, be open minded about greek life. It wasn't something that I thought I would ever do, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.

I wouldn't recommend getting a job right away, it is going to be super stressful if you do. If you feel like you have time, I would look for one second semester/quarter.

College really is amazing, have a fabulous time. Remember, it is a chance to start fresh. :)

I don't know about the amount of studying you have to do for pharmacy but as for the other questions...I can answer.

Living in the dorm isn't that bad. I think the only thing I didn't like was the restroom facilities (the whole sharing it). I think as long as you get along with your roommate than everything should be fine.

As far as making friends it should be a piece of cake. Everyone that lives in the dorms are looking for people to hang out with. So don't be afraid.

Getting involved is really up to you. It just depends on what you like to do. I joined a service organization that really made me feel like I was giving back to my school and community.

Depending if this is your first year, which I assume so...I wouldn't get a job quiet yet because you don't know your school workload or any...if at all organizations you will be involved in. So just wait and see how your first semester goes and then decide. But your first two years of school shouldn't be that hard because you will be taking your curriculum courses and won't get into your core pharmacy courses until later on.

Well, I hope that helped...GOOD LUCK :)
college is a pain in the a*ss specially when u dont get a job after u finish and having spend thousands on it
Pre Pharmacy... be prepared to spend a lot of time in Biology and Chemistry classes and labs. If you aren't enrolled for 4 years of science and and 4 years in math in high school you need to. If you don't have to work, then don't, Chemistry labs and classes take a lot of time and a LOT of studying, especially if you skimped in high school and didn't take trig, physics, and all the higher level maths and sciences. You aren't going to have time for much else besides school, but in the long run I'll be worth it... your future earning capabilities will huge!!
