You have some time before you go off but I understand wanting to get away. Sounds like you wouldn't mind boarding high school at the moment...just to get away.
My parents lived about 3 hrs. away from the college I went to. It was good to have a second place to go to that didn't cost money to stay. Believe it or not there are going to be times that you wanna get away from everyone at school, especially if you plan on attending a large school in a big city.
You may want to consider smaller to medium size schools in a smaller city that is far enough away from home but not too far as to need a plane ticket home.
You would be in culture shock if you moved into a dorm in manhattan. But only you know what is best. It may be exactly what you need. Only two more years. It will go fast. Just keep up those grades and have fun in the process of choosing a school. Try and visit the school before you committ.
Go to the school that is the best fit for you (socially, academically, etc).
I can say that being really far away stinks on vacations (you get kicked out of the dorms, but no place really to go - some places might be too far for you to go home for Thanksgiving...). It's also hard when you're sick, or need to come home for a weekend, and can't.
Maybe look at some schools that are a few hours away - far enough so that your mom's boyfriend can't run things, but close enough, so you can have contact when you want.
UW sounds like a good choice. How about Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, or Michigan? Again, close enough, but also far enough away.
weel if it worth to go far then u should. u can learn more and get new exp.
What does your mom's boyfriend have to do with anything, and why is he butting in and opening his mouth?
That's a pretty diverse list. What kind of grades and SAT scores do you have, and what are you interested in studying? How are you planning on paying for school? Where do you think you'll want to work when you graduate, or are you considering going on to graduate school? Location is important, and this is absolutely the best time in your life to go exploring, but it isn't the only factor to consider.
Also, once you've got your list set in place, you should do as much visiting as possible. At least be sure to go see the places you get accepted to and are seriously considering. You might find after spending a day on campus and talking to other students that some places are more fun to visit than to spend four years of your life, and others are better than you imagined.
I'd suggest getting away, at least a several hours drive from your home town...when I didn't get in to the college of my choice (UNC-Asheville) I made the mistake of going to my local university and all I did was party with my friends from high school, etc...I made a few friends on campus but I didn't get involved and thus I hated being there. I dropped out after one year and still wish I would've gone away to one of the other schools I was accepted to. If you're that far away, your mom's bf won't be able to control you and then you can control the situation and how often you see them, and you'll get to be in a new environment with new opportunities.
Maybe look at schools in Chicago...then you'd get the advantage of being in a big city also...or maybe something picturesque or not so big town like U of Indiana-Bloomington...and of course there's always NC schools...one of the best places for universities in the country including UNC-Chapel Hill, the oldest public university in the country...or UNCA, Pembroke, etc...LOTS of good schools to choose from.
