I've lived in the Dallas area before, Tyler as of right now. I have no clue what I'm going to do once I graduate. I've exhausted all avenues of majors while in college, accepting advice from my folks to "Just major in business" seeing how I have no idea where I'm going.
I've looked into teaching, grad schools, financial areas, etc.
I have no idea what I could do with this degree, or what I'm going to do come a few semesters. I constantly look at the Occupational Outlook Handbook and try to figure out what I'm going to get into.
HELP!
Answers:
i think teaching is great (maybe become a high school econ teacher). but in order to do that, you should go get your teacher credential after you graduate! good luck!
While I do appreciate the stage you're in, I can remember a long time ago being where you are, you are not having a life crisis. So keep doing what you are doing: studying and figuring how it all fits together for you personally, and focus on a few things.
First, unless you are studying for some specific role, such as Dr. or Lawyer, Teacher, Physicist you are getting a general education as are most college students and guess what -- most get hired having completed general education, even if it is called Busness Administration Management.
Next keep active trying to match your studies, work experience (Blockbuster, Chilli's), and what makes you curious, to jobs that businesses are trying to fill according to: Occupational Outlook Handbook, the job postings in Administration, the Sunday help wanted ads, e.g. Dallas Morning News, what recruiters on your campus look for.
Stay in contact with friends and relatives. Talk to your teachers, your Director of Placement. Network, network, network.
Look for companies that hire collge graduates into trainee positions. And don't discount jobs that you are not even thinking about right now, e.g. public relations, sales (are you techinically swift or a klutz like me?), Fireman, State Trooper.
Let me close by encouraging you to try to identify the type of work or thing you like to do. Maybe all you need to do is take 2 or 3 courses to get you ready to train to be an MRI Technician, or to switch majors and go to Med School.
Don't panic; get prepared; be patient. . And good luck!
