Answers:
TO BE A NURSE YOU HAVE SEVERAL OPTION, (a pediatric nurse is just a subspecialty):
1. LVN/LPN a one year course where you can perform minimal nursing duties under the supervision of an RN. It takes about 1 year to complete and your salary is about 2/3 of what an RN makes.
2. RN/ASN this is a basic nurse with an associates degree. The program takes 2 years of full time nursing studies and clinicals. Once you complete the program you must sit for a nursing exam.
3. RN/BSN is a 4 year degree. Once completed you have to take the same test that is required of a ASN student. There are MORE management opportunities with this option. And you can not go further in nursing (nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, anesthetist, masters level) without a bachelors.
