So i realized i want to study graphics after high school...art institute or university?

Question:my dream job is to work for a magazine and i love to work with graphic and graphic designs. I should keep my options open, i really want to have graphics be a part of my career, i love everything that goes into a magazine like layouts and such. i really want to continue with graphics but im stuck on what kind of school might offer the best options. do i go to an art institute or a university? i would really prefer a university for the experience but how do i go about narrowing them down?

Answers:
It sounds like your best option is a school that combines both - a very good art school with a great reputation for that, plus a strong, well rounded university. I'd have you look at:

- Rochester Institute of Technology
- Carnegie Mellon
- Syracuse University
- Boston University
- Drexel (a bit less hard to get into than some others on the list)
- University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign
- Yale
- Smith College
- Hampshire College
- Tufts University (through its affiliation with the Museum School)
- Brown University (through its affiliation with RISD)
- The New School (through its affiliation with Parsons)
- Indiana University (through its affiliation with Herron)

And there are others, but these should get you started.
very good friend of mine is heading off to College of Santa Fe - they are a liberal arts college specializing in arts... check it out.

She's very excited about it, as we are. But we can't share our direct experience yet.
