Another way to put it might be "let sleeping dogs lie". Leave the situation alone, and let things play out the way that they are destined to. Don't try to force a change.
It means that if you were in an argument with someone and they don't want to argue anymore then they could say let's leave it at that. On the other hand, if someone is trying to make a point at the end of what they are saying they could say let's leave it at that. Or when you are in a conversation with someone and they want to stop talking they could say that too.
That depends on what has happened prior to the "Let's leave at that" Do tell or should we just leave it at that?
