I have a problem with this because I was going get a certificate from a local college in either digital media or web design so that I can get a better job that would pay for me to get my masters.
So my question is which one should I do first? Should I get a certificate to get a better job so that they will pay for it? Do you think that it would be a waste of time? Or should I just enroll in the masters progam, take some classes and hope that will be enough for me to find a job that will pay for it?
Answers:
Getting a certificate that will advance your career so that you can afford to even further advance it with a Master's degree seems like a perfectly viable option. University studies incur a good deal of debt, so anything you can do to pay up front for your education will probably be helpful for you in the long run. Getting an advanced degree is wonderful, but if you have to pay for it almost entirely with loans, it's almost as if you're starting behind before you get ahead. Any step forward - even if it is a baby-step - is a good step. The certificate is definitely not a waste of time.
Even though that is my advice, it's really up to how you are feeling. If you read what I wrote and think to yourself "Actually, I really think a Master's would get me farther," then I think you have your answer. The decision is a combination of how much money you can allocate to your studies and how much time you are willing to put in. If you have recently finished a Bachelor's degree, you may want to give yourself a breath before jumping back in to graduate school. You have your entire life to go up the ladder, do whatever you feel you are ready for right now.
masters degree i went through the same thing get it over with then u can get a better joba nd get more money
If you haven't already, I think you need to look at some of the companies you want to work for and see what they require. If there aren't any listings currently, ask some of the people at there now if they'd be willing to talk with you about the educational requirements. That'll give you a better idea of whether you need the classes for the certificate first, or if you can just go ahead and apply now. The only thing I wouldn't do is start the masters' unless you're prepared to pay for all of it if necessary.
You should go to school,if your able to devote all your time towards it,your g.p.a. is going to follow and have an impact in that career.
Otherwise maybe this semester isn't the right time for you to return, school is never a waste of time, knowledge is power, the question is how much time do you have to engage.
Good question...depends on your situation. I know people who were denied jobs in the chemistry field cause they had a BA instead of a Masters. In teaching, some employers prefer someone with a Masters, and some employers will offer tuition reimbursement if you attend classes after you begin work.
Depends on the employer!!!
