Yes. While chemistry might be the preffered degree. You could pull off other majors suchs as physics, engineering, and biology as long as you taken enough chemisty esp. organic chemistry.
Wouldn't hurt to have a little math under your belt. I got my BS in physics and now I am a nuclear engineer. I have taken radiochemisty and radiobiology, which also has chemistry and biology grad. students in them as well. They are horrible at math.
it would make more sense if you major in something like chemistry.
I've been told that (for NY State at least) you should go into a pre-pharmacology. If you dont feel up to that, or your state/ school doesnt offer it, then you can always take bio-chemistry, organic chemistry, anything thats going to help you with the rigors of the degree program. In Ohio State, for instance, they start you right off in the pharamacy career path. It varies from state to state.
You should major in bio-chemistry because that is what your job as a pharmacist will entail. I think pharmacy school is 4 years long now.
You need to have a 4 year degree of sometime.
Classes:
1) 1 year of Biology – This should be the introductory classes. You may find taking more advanced biology classes may help you for the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT).
2) 1 year of General Chemistry
3) 1 year of Organic Chemistry
4) 1 year of General Physics
5) 1 semester of Public Speaking
6) 1 – 2 semesters of Communication Class
