Not at all! Nurses are in high demand everywhere, in every kind of medical specialty (surgical, psychiatry, doctor's offices, general medical, nursing homes, just to name a few). Nursing is one of those fields that you never have to worry about not being able to find a job because everywhere you go there's going to be people who are sick and need medical attention (I know that's a sad way to put that, but it's true). Guys (I'm assuming you're a guy since your avatar is a guy :)) are also in high demand in the field of nursing right now. I read an article at work (I work on a psychiatric unit in a local hospital) that the nursing field is trying to change the perception that nursing is a "women's only" profession by trying to recruit more men into the field. So you have an advantage there...and another advantage would be if you know another language (especially Spanish if you're in the U.S.) because there are more and more people coming to this country all the time whose first language is not English. So to answer your original question...yes nursing is a good field to get into if you're interested in it. It pays well and there are always opportunities available for nurses. Hope this helps.
no, there is actually a shortage, resulting in many hospitals recruiting overseas. There are plenty of openings, and the positions pay well
The United States currently has a shortage of nurses so I do not think you will have a problem getting a job. To give you a heads up though there are LONG waiting list to get into most nursing programs due to the lack of instructors. Also you definately need to know this is a field you want to go into to the average nurse works 12 hr shifts 5 days a week and is legally required not to leave the job until relieved. So before you commit research.
There is currently a shortage. And long waiting lists at nursing schools.
A nurse does not work 12 hour shifts 5 days a week- at most they are scheduled 7 -12 hour shifts over a 2 week period.
The projection for nursing jobs (Occupational Outlook Handbook - a US Govt Pub) is good. There will be jobs, they will be high pay, and high pressure. Turnover in nursing, people leaving the profession, is very high. Take a look at the OOH.
