What does it take to be a cartoonist?

Question: Like anything else, desire and skill.
ability to draw cartoons interest and skill. You have to be able to draw, you have to be funny, and you have to do both on a deadline. Then you have to be able to market yourself to find a publisher or go the web cartoon route like J. D Frasier of User Friendly. Not only does it take all those answers but it also takes for your work to be "Out There" for the public to see and enjoy... for you to take criticism and compliments on certain areas of your work... and conforming them to be what the public will accept and want to see more of. good luck The basic requirement for a cartoonist is a good drawing ability. There are many types of cartoons -- the pattern traced on a wall before someone paints a mural is called a cartoon, as is the basic drawing used to make a mosaic.
Another type of cartoon is the animated drawings that make up movies and videos. Until recently, these were drawn by hand, with a separate drawing to show each micro-second of movement. It was a very tedious process. Recently, computer graphics have been developed that can speed up the process, but much cartooning is still done by hand drawing.
Another type of cartoon is the comic strip cartoon, or the editorial page cartoon, in which a sketchy type of drawing is used to tell a story.
Those kinds of cartooning need a good sense of humour, or political awareness, as well as drawing abilities.
Hope this is helpful.
