# STAT Q:how many ways could a team be selected in which one was familiar with the word processing package, etc?

Question:Of 10 people on a student newspaper staff, 6 are familiar with a particular word processing package. If three people are randomly selected and assigned to work as a team, how many ways could a team be selected in which one was familiar with the word processing package and the other two were not? 6 ways in which the first guy IS familiar, times 4-choose-2 ways in which the second guy is not. 4-choose-2 is 3x2=6, so 36 ways.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are familiar while 7, 8, 9 and 10 are not.
So assuming 1 (for the time being) is the one that knows, the possible combinations are as follows:

1, 7, 8
1, 8, 9
1, 9, 10
1, 7, 9
1, 8, 10
1, 7, 10

So 6 combinations per person that knows the software and there being 6 people that know it - I would say 36.
