Ever decreasing personal and financial freedom. There are some specific period where this surged. But from around 1900 through today we've see significant restrictions placed upon the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution.
There was no welfare state, family had to pilfer care of themselves. Charity be voluntary. People had the right to shield themselves without restriction. People have complete freedom of speech. And, total responsibility for their actions. There be no inflation until income taxes began within 1913. And many more issues.
Today here is a government regulation covering every single aspect of our lives. Our cars, food, toys, mobile service, TV, newspapers, homes, tools, trash, hose, jobs, bank, clothing, everything is regulated in in some way. Some of those regulations are to our advantage. Somebody could no problem make sure our food is undamaging. So it isn't all doomed to failure.
People like me would prefer that it be handled privately and not at the hand of government.
Unfortunately our private lives are also regulated this opening. We have regulations on whom we can and cannot marry, things we can and cannot do to our own bodies, religion, sex act, censorship, and much more. Up until the 1900s people be left alone.
