Smart growth?

Question:Ok I have a discussion question about smart growth. The question is what are 5 tools taht cities can use to promote smart growth?

I need some help finding information on this. I just keep finding information on what smart growth is. I need to know ways to promote it, not what it is.

Answers:
I typed in "promoting smart growth" in my browser search bar then clicked on either "site map" or "resources" & added those sites below in case they are ones you haven't seen yet.

Here are some of my own ideas - off the top of my head:

- Offer a continuing education class/course about
the topic through community colleges, or adult
education courses offered at high schools in
the evenings

- Write an article, or series of articles, for the local
newspaper(s)

- Give seminars at apartment communities - especially
at those where people are in transit, moving from one
house to another house.

- Work with the local cooperative extension group on
ways to combine your knowledge with the help they
provide to people in the community.

- Start your own website. Once the data is organized
there, you can print it out in pamphlet form to be used
for any of the above forums.

I hope at least one of these helps you get the word out.
Here are some of the ways:

Zoning: controlling what can be built where

Green belts: A zone of open space around the city limits sprawl (London is a famous case).

Mass transit: Investing in more efficient ways of moving people around reduces traffic and pollution, cuts the need for investment in roads, and spurs growth.

Density: Many cities are looking to increase the density of development to avoid spreading out and using up scarce land as well as keeping the cost of development, especially housing, down.

Mixed development: It's common now for cities to seek projects that include a mix of retail, office, light manufacturing and residential to keep people where jobs and services are located and reduce the need for travel.
