1. USA was industrial, CSA was agricultural. As this war would be one of advanced technology, that gave USA a considerable advantage. CSA had to trade for raw industrial material and finished goods.
2. USA agriculture was largely grains, which required little tending. CSA cotton was incredibly labor intensive. So, not only did the US need fewer men to farm (more could fight), they were growing food to feed their army.
3. US had many times more miles of railroad than the CS. This greatly aided logistics and military supply.
