Define and explain in ur own words "man can be destroyed but cannot be defeated"?

Question:

Answers:
The human body can be destroyed. but, the spirit lives on...

A person or community of people may face harsh realities in life, yet still the struggle to keep trying, to survive is a necessity. Although this may lead to the destruction of the body, the home, family in a physical sense... it does not defeat the spirit. It strengthens the mind and spirit...because of the struggle in it of itself.

It is an abstract way of saying... no one can take away our beliefs and faith...no one can keep us from fighting for what we want.

Others can injure or hurt us physically, but our souls remain intact and there is no defeat in the human spirit.

I imagine this might be something a person would say...before going to war. Or, perhaps when faced with persecution of some kind about an issue or cause that means a great deal personally. It might also be how people are ravaged by some kind of storm or catastrophic event - and they rally and come back.

This was a rather famous quote by Ernest Hemingway in his novel: "The Old Man and the Sea".
