Hi frend ! 1st thing that we need to change about our film industry is the 'TAG' of being called ''BOLLYWOOD''a nick name given by hollywood as 'B'grade hollywood films..and its the right time we change it for better..like INDIA TALKIES where all the regional languages will come under 1 roof of INDIAN FILM FRATERNITY..its derogatory today the actors dont realise before calling it bollywood..,we have come a longway in terms of technicality but we lack behind in 1 department not 1 but 2 that is scripting and music.. the standard has hit its all time low..going back in 50's era where films like AAWARA and DO BIGAH ZAMEEN and 2 AANKHEN BARAH HAATH was made..subjects had universal appeal..their treatment was bold..subjects that would move the common man from within..n e body would want to sit back and take a notice..then came 60's era where epics were made and created history and films like BANDINI/SUJATA/MUGH-E-AZAM and MOTHER INDIA were unbeatable released almost same time in a span of 2 years..out of them mother india and mughal e azam took more than 10 years in the making..but their treatment still gives a refreshing change..now why iam repeating the history is bcoz today a film is made on a scale of 50 to 60 crores where 1 entire village can be rehabilated..but the final products is dismisal and disappointing..with nudity at its all time high..its not as if we dont have talent..but now that talent has not variety to showcase..v.few directors dare to be different and most recently Mira nair has done stupendous job using a novel subject..the rest karan's and adis still playing safe with keeping international audience as their backdrop..after all these years and so much recognition film fratertnity should seriously hunnnnnt for freshness and not let their talents stagnet..i can never identify myself wth hollywood films..and my heart goes to serious masala INDIA TALKIES..
I live in Canada but I was born and raised in INDIA till the age of 14. I still watch Hindi movies and I actually like them. I mean Indian cinema has come to an extent of admiration through the movies which are realistic (no kidding, some of them truly are). Movies like Munnabhai ..., Gandhi, my father and even other movies belonging to different genres are pretty good. Indian movies are like sweet dreams. We don't have a lot of horror movies or thrillers in India. We like "happy" movies and one thing I cant deny is that we always like happy endings. Movies that don't give us that "feel-good" feeling in the end don't stay on our minds for too long. Its not really bad and we do need some happiness in our lives with all the "various things" going on.
Hollywood is more like a hybrid of several components and most Hollywood movies that do well (win Oscar or otherwise) are not original. Movies that are taken from the past are good but its difficult to relate to them. The movie I liked last year was "little miss sunshine" which was original and did well. I guess exceptions are always there. What's interesting about Hollywood is that there are many directors possessing different kinds of talents. In Indian Cinema, we have some really good actors but only few good directors and producers.
I think Hollywood is huge not due to good movies all the time but because of several movies belonging to each possible genre. Anyone from a three years old to fifty years old can find their "place" in it. On one hand you have TRANSFORMERS and on the other hand you have WILD HOGS. Its relatively hard for kids to find any connection between their lives and movies and same with the older people in Indian Cinema. I know that Indian Cinema has changed during many years and we are becoming "global" but the best thing I can say is that we can increase our acceptability for different types of movies and at the same time we can also stick to our traditions and culture. We really dont need to copy the west. What we need to do is find something in our own culture for a five year old as well as for an elderly person. We are doing just fine and there is always scope of improvement.
Indian cinema is all about emotions and feelings. We as indians get quite emotional when we hear a dialogue that touches our heart. We bring forth the unimaginable. Whereas in hollywood everything is based on facts and universal truth. Quite few films show the extraordinary eg-anconda, king kong etc.
Indian films encourage comedy, and other forms of talent such as singing, dancing. But name one holllywood film which has the hero-heroine dancing and singing along. And last but not the least Indian films stress on pure love.
