Significant Muslim populations? what does it mean?

Question:I've read a VOA article and there is a noun phrase I can't understand. 'She was one of the students from countries with significant Muslim populations.' In this context, what does 'significant' mean? Does it say 'a lot of' or 'extreme' here? I don't know- please let me know!!

Answers:
this is the meaning of significant:

Main Entry: sig·nif·i·cant
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin significant-, significans, present participle of significare to signify
1 : having meaning; especially : SUGGESTIVE <a significant glance>
2 a : having or likely to have influence or effect : IMPORTANT <a significant piece of legislation>; also : of a noticeably or measurably large amount <a significant number of layoffs> <producing significant profits> b : probably caused by something other than mere chance <statistically significant correlation between vitamin deficiency and disease>

so from the definitions here and the phrase your saying it would mean a large amount there are a large amount of muslim populations.
