exp..
heres a question: Evaluate
15+[2x24(7+12-18)/(24/3)]
do these[ ] just mean i do them first then perenthesis?
Answers:
Box parentheses are the same thing as regular, except for they hold other parentheses in between them.
15+[2x24(7+12-18)/(24/3)]
is the x multiplication or a vairable?
15 + [2•24(7+12-18)/(24/3)]
15 + [2•(24•1)/(8)]
15 + (48/8)
15 + 6
= 21
They are used similar to the parentheses. You do the parentheses first. THe brackets ([ ]) are just used to seperate the equation. So the answer would be 15 + the solution of what is in the brackets.
Your right, you have to do the equation inside of the brackets [ ] first. You still follow the normal rules of solving inside the paranthesis first, then multiplication/division, then addition and subtraction. Once the equation is solved inside the brackets then proceed to add the answer to 15. Hope that makes sense.
[ ] is just another ( ), so is { } All are parenthesis. They are used so that you know when one set ends to avoid confusion. Usually you use ( ) first, then [ ] if you need a second set , and { } if additional ones are needed.
Always solve the ( ) first, the the [ ]. When doing problems like these, always work from inside to outside. Inside first.
The [ ] are just a way to place a parenthesis inside of a second set of parenthesis. You always start with the stuff in the parenthesis ( ) and then use those answers to answer the stuff in the brackets [ ]. So in your problem You would first add 7, and 12, then subtract 18. 15+[2*24(1)/(24/3)] Then you work on the second set of parenthesis ( ). Divide 24 by 3. 15+[2*24(1)/8]. Then you change the brackets [ ] to parenthesis ( ) 15+(2*24/8) and use PEMDAS to solve. The 1 got multiplied by 24, so that's where it went incase you were wondering.
