Question:the formula for the distance an object falls is d=.5gt^2 (air resistance ignored), where g is acceleration due to gravity, 9.8 m/s^2, and t is time of fall. if a rock is dropped 122.5 meters to the ground, how many seconds does the rock fall?

4 sec.

5 sec.

6 sec.

7 sec.

8.5 sec.

Answers:
the answer is 5 sec. on questions like this it may be faster to just plug in the answers. ex. 5^2=25, so 25x9.8x.5=122.5
122.5 = .5 * 9.8 * t ^2
122.5 = 4.9 *t^2
122.5/4.9 = t^2
25 = t^2
t = 5
5 seconds
