Fission power, the kind we use today can be sustained almost indefinitely. The U235 is used for the initial reaction. The U238 is exposed to the radiation of the reaction and converted to Plutonium 239 which itself is even more radioactive than U235. In other words, you get power and more fuel. However the new fuel is extremely dangerous and lethal.
Fission power, the kind used in the sun, is possible and when we finally figure out how to do it, we will have unlimited power with no radioactive waste products. We will be able to generate massive amounts of electrical power for things that do not move and hydrogen fuel for things that do. We will be able to put OPEC out of business. Which ever nation develops fission power first will be able to corner the market and be the next major supplier of power in the world.
