I am completely lost in latin. how do i learn it?

Question:i take latin online and it i cannot understand it at all...
how can i get help

Answers:
This is a much better way to get help online than any of the other ways I have ever seen suggested on EduQnA.com:

http://www.ravendays.org/latin/lists/lis...

This way, you can try out exercises and then compare your answers to others who are studying. It's like an online study group, with group discussion.

Meanwhile, does your online Latin course have a discussion group?

One thing about Latin: the relationships between the words in a sentence doesn't depend on word order like English does. That means that you will have to think about the relationships between the words like a web, instead of in a linear way like English.

Go back and read all the readings again. Read them over and over without translating, until you can understand what it really means. Once you "get it" it is all going to make sense in a flash.

Also, if you email me some of the sentences you are working with, along with what you think they mean, I will help you untangle any problems.

It's going to be ok!
Practice!

Veni, vidi, vici...
Get a book that has exercises, and just really learn the grammar. Practice over and over and over -- those charts and things really just depend on memorization. You've got to /know/ it or you'll never learn the language.

Other things that help:

Translations, flashcards, and asking specific questions.
Most teachers of Latin concentrate on the grammar, and this makes it tough to learn.
I would recommend trying to learn Latin as you would any other modern language, by listening to a lot of it, and speaking as much of it aloud as you can. Try the Adler lessons on the Latinum podcast.
