There are 2 main types of conflict:
1. Internal: this is where one character is struggling with himself (ex: Huck in huckleberry Finn. he is wrestling with how he feels about racism and helping to free a slave)
2. External
Now there are 2 types of external conflict:
1. man vs. man, which is where one character and another character are clashing (ex: In the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Jack sparrow and Captain Barbossa )
2. man vs. nature, which is where a character is clashing with nature (ex: in Moby Dick Captain Ahab s constantly battling the sea in order to kill the whale Moby Dick)

The plot is all the main events that make the story, the conflict is the problem that happens in the story.
plot is the story line...what happens, then what happens, etc.
conflict is two forces fighting each other...maybe 2 charaters, or person fighting city hall, or person fighting his/her own consience.
Plot is simply the basic theme of the story. Boy meets girl, boy and girl fight, boy and girl are thrown together again, boy and girl live happily ever after.
That's a plot.
Conflict happens with the clashing interactions between boy and girl. Boy thinks girl looks down on him. Girl thinks boy hangs out with uncouth characters. That's the beginning of a conflict. Then you add to it.
Girl's parents forbid her to see boy any longer. Boy's friends laugh at him for wanting to be with someone who insists on using a fork to eat everything - including a hot dog.
and so on and so on.
