I donot want to send my son to school. Is there any other way .....?

Question:My second son is now 11months old.My first one is doing 2nd std. I happened to deal with many schools and their management people. I was irritated by their business intentions and behaviours. What they pose is definetely not the real one in practical. They just make the students to memorise the contents and vomit the same in the answer paper. They even give exactly the questions which is going to appear in the examination.
I really hate to send my sons to school. There may be some real schools but they are too costly to fit into my budget.
If I continue sending my kids to school I will have the guilty that I am wasting their young age as well as their potential to face their future.
I have decided to put my 2nd son in Gurukul where he can learn slokas and basic life. This could be possible for a brahmin family like us. But what other non-brahmins will do if they also think in the same way as I do? Kindly suggest.

Answers:
I can understand your feelings of modern schools. But I think a child should be brought up along with other children of his age group.
This gives him a chance to mingle with other students and learn a lot about life and worldly things which as parents we may not be able to teach.Adjustment with other children is one good lesson. If we are brought up alone in secluded atmosphere
there is the danger of frustration seting in.
The reason why many parents (muslims) dont send their children to Madarasas is they become more religious and less worldly. Now a days they are also introducing science and english etc.
You may admit your children to good schools in your area and also teach at home or in a temple all the religious prechings in Sanskrit.I can asure you a boy who learns sanakrit will outshine other boys. This is what I did to my son.
Also watch your boys friends and his other habits.Your aim should be to expose him to all good things a student must know.Don't worry of bad influences. As long as parents are watching and guiding the chances of picking bad company is reduced. Also if he learns sanskrit his moral levels are likely to increase and he will be a good social type of person when he grows up.Don't by any chance isolate your children from other good boys.
You may be knowing that Rabindranath Tagore being a very rich person was never sent to school. He learned at home.May be that influenced him to be secluded and made him a poet. All may not have such opertunities. Also these days with TV and cinemas the bad influences are more. So the key word is watch your children dont'deny them any thing and give good advise.
By sending your second son to Gurukul, you will be doing a stupid thing. You have to understand what you have narrated, is the order of the day. You can bank on good private tutor/s who can deliver the learning in true spirit & passion.
I ENTIRELY AGREE WITH U
the education sustem has changed dramatically over the period of years but the change is for WORSE!
u cannot imagine the same type of education that u got and taht too at a nominal fee!!
unfortunately we r living in an era where if u do not give the child atmost importance to education u will feel the guilt that u r not doing enough and will also have the fear that ur child is lagging behind while other children are surging ahead!!
this is the type AURA AND HYPE created by the present day schools!

also, since ur first child is already in school,u should not faal that i have not done enough for my second child by putting him in a GURUKUL!

I sincerly suggest u to CHOSE THE BEST AMONG THE WORST!

ALL THE BEST
You have a very negative view of the present status of school education in India. All schools are not like what you have described. There are dedicated schools in the country. You should have a positive attitude and you should not rob your children of their schooling chance. Schooling is very important for your children not only for learning , but also for developing other qualities in life.
I'm guessing you are not in the U.S. but here we have the option to home school our children. I know you have to stick to certain guidelines but many people don't want to send their children to public schools so they home school. I would check it out in your area see if you are able to do it. I don't even know how to start homeschool but I'm sure if you asked at the school where you do not want to send you son they would be able to give you information.
Well....i dont think sending your sons in a Gurukul...is not so good idea..well...if u dont want send your sons to school....then u can home school them...Gurukul is like in old times.i know people who study slokas as well as the education in school.....I say you can home school your children and so many children are home schooled theese days !! :)
u can teach them at home through National open school.
We the people always take private schools in to consideration. Now a days, it became a status symbol to shell highest donations to get a seat in corporate school. We never think about Government Schools and Colleges. My total schooling was done in Government High School and Degree in a Government College. My colleagues are placed in a better position. Government educational institutions are not that bad as projected in media. Particularly in Tamilnadu Government Educational Institutes are well equipped and well maintained. Do not think about Holy Angels or Don Bosco. Give a fresh thought. Do not feel that your children will accuse you for joining them in public Institutions. We have to feed back children about our family conditions and financial position as they are growing up. This is my opinion. If it is in bad taste, please ignore it.
