What do you do if you can't afford college textbooks? They're just so expensive. I've choosen 6 classes and all the books that I have to buy are about $1000! Just can't afford them!
Do you think it is Okay to borrow from the library? Or it is better to copy from my classmates? Or...
Need your help! Thank you!
Answers:
First, go talk with your financial aid office; there are sometimes funds to help with the purchase of books. You can't count on the books being there at the library, so that isn't the way to go. Also check with your prospective professors to see if there are any extra copies floating around - professors sometimes get approval copies from publishing firms. You might also e-mail the publishing firms themselves, and ask for a copy - the only thing it will cost you is a few minutes of time at your computer, and you just might get lucky!
Good luck!
There are several steps you can take to afford college textbooks.
1. Buy books used and online when possible. I use BigWords.com which will comparison shop for you, and find the best deal.
2. Budget for books. You know the expense will be coming. It should be something you plan for ahead of time so you have the cash when needed.
3. See if classmates who just took the same class will sell you their textbook for a major discount. Offer them $10 more than they could get from any buy back program, and you will both win.
I think you should borrow from the library. I still don't get why you have to buy the college textbooks when you're just using it for that class, then you won't use it anymore, but then again, I'm not in college yet. In one more year then I will be.
First I would like to say I am currently sitting on the reducing textbook committee for the students of Illinois. I would like to suggest a couple of solutions to your problem: 1. Search for the used edition online by obtaining the ISBN number for your books that will make the process much easier (amazon.com is a great place to start). 2. Ask your prof if he/she has a spare copy that they can lend you for the semester. 3. Ask friends/classmates if they have the books you need. 4. Take a loan out! Hopefully I have helped you!
