A great tip I always give people is to give a practice speech in front of the videocamera. You should then review your speech to see how you could improve it, and repeat the process all over again. I recently posted an article about using video to aid your speaking at http://www.successfulcommunication.com... that you might find helpful.

You can also give your speech in front of friends and family and ask them how you could improve it. Just like a sport or a musical instrument, giving a great speech happens as a result of continued practice. Work on what facial expressions you will use when, work on how you will use your eyes to engage the audience, and work on projecting a strong and confident voice.

Good luck in your upcoming competition!
Study other great orators. Not that these are all good people but MLK was a great person and speaker. On the other hand Hitler was a horrible person but a almost perfect speaker. Eye contact and like you said small moves that make people pay attention. You'll be fine. Good luck.
eye contact is very important.. dont say umm or any other fillers.. make sure to change your voice tone at appropriate times.. do not be monotone.. stand up straight and be confident.. posture is crucial to delivering your message.. pause at appropriate times to let the audience contemplate what you are saying.. good luck!
when your giving your speech don't think about how you're doing...don't overthink your preparation and try to memorize exact sentences.just let it flow...try practicing this out loud for a few days before
This year is actually my third year of being on the speech team. What you should do is practice eye contact, conversationality, and memorization. Also work on talking slowly and clearly. Good luck at the competition!
