Question:How would you do the punctuation when listing a city within a certain region within a country? I'm trying to be very specific when listing a certain place for a book report for english class. I read the book And Then There Were None and I don't know how to put the setting(as in place). I put: a fictional island named Indian Island off of the shore of Sticklehaven, Devon, England.the only problem I have is how to list the last 3 words with correct punctuation...does anyone know how to put it?
Answers:
You have it correct. Just like writing Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
Saying Sticklehaven, Devon and England is how you would do it if you were listing places, not if you want to say that Sticklehaven is in Devon which is in England.
Sticklehaven, Devon and England.
using logic, you must simply avoid commas in the middle of separate multi-part independent names, and have commas where they provide the only way to separate independent names.
I assume Devon is a county. Sticklehaven is irrelevant unless the city boundaries enclose the island, which would be very odd.
My best guess:
Indian Island, Devon, England
