I need to know is Magnet school really going to affect my chances in college? I care about my future unlike some other kids I know, but I have a crappy social life. Any help?
Answers:
A magnet school "draws" in the top students in the area. That's why they're called "magnet" schools. A regular public school takes in anyone who lives in the area.
A magnet school will only help your chances in college.
In California, we don't have those old and established elite private schools like Exeter (out in the East). However, we have top public magnet schools that the top colleges know are just as good as the famous private schools. The beauty of them is they are FREE since they're public schools.
Not all privates are good. Many refuse to release statistics and stuff and give you some garbage sales pitch to make them sound like they provide a better education for the child. If the surrounding public schools are bad, that may be the case. However, there are plenty of public schools that provide a better education than private schools.
A magnet school is a public school which offers specialized courses or curricula.
The use of the word magnet refers to schools drawing students from across normal boundaries defined by authorities (usually school boards) as school zones that feed into certain schools. The school which a student would attend if they were not in the magnet program is often referred to as the home school.
Your education will be more specific and often better than the regular public school which has a broader education base but the intensity and expectation of the students is often less.
Magnet schools usually draw more motivated students
Your social life in high school is always crappy.
Your right to want to have high SATS to get into a good college. Some people say public school is your best choice.
But it seems like public school there is to much going on and sports and everything you can't get good grades.
I think that is probably your best bet but it ultimately matters how hard you study. Most everything is learned on computers these days anyway. I got into a good college and I barey squeeked by. But I don't want to spend the rest of my life making min. wage. You want a social life? get a good job. It takes money.
