The History of the stars on the American Flag.?

Question:I need to find information about the stars on the American Flag for a presentation that a group of people and I are doing regarding partrisism. I have found alot of info on the flag itself, but the only thing that I can find about the stars is that they represent the 13 colonies. can anyone help me?

Answers:
George Washington's original pencil sketch for the flag indicated 6-pointed stars, a form he apparently preferred.

Betsy Ross, however, recommended a 5-pointed star. When the committee protested that it was too difficult to make, she took a piece of paper, folded it deftly, and with a single snip of her scissors, produced a symmetrical five-pointed star. This seeming feat of magic so impressed her audience that they readily agreed to her suggestion.

Why stars and stripes? Stars are considered a symbol of the heavens and the divine goal to which man has aspired from time immemorial; the stripe is symbolic of the rays of light emanating from the sun.

There are 50 stars representing the 50 states and there are 13 stripes representing the 13 original states.
the stripes represent the 13 colonies
Thats pretty much it I think, besides going into detail or why the flag started out with only 13 and grew bigger from there. Going into detail about when the states where added and why etc. You could also mention Betsty Ross. Hope that helps, but focusing on one area is going to make a hard presentation.
