This is a fairly complex question, but here's some general answers:
-Israel is invested in very strong lobbying groups, media groups, and political ties with the US, so there's strong political/social influence.
-History:
When the state of Israel was established in 1949, it was the only Jewish state in the middle eastern region. Furthermore, this was just around the the time of the Cold War, and the United States saw the potential of Israel as being a strong economic and military ally against the Soviet Union and the neighboring Arab countries, which were under heavy Soviet influence. As a result, military investments were made to Israel, and have been going on since.
Also, Israel is the only true democratic country in the region, whose political ideaology the US supports.
In recent decades, Israel has been a large supplier of new technologies and patents, many of which are sold to the US, so again, the economic ties are important.
If there was ever a war between the US and the middle eastern Arab countries, Israel would indeed be the only stable ally in the region.
idk the US does stupid things like that
Israel is a little closer to the war than we are.
Because we as a whole, as a nation, love to be in debt. It's a proven fact. I only have 20 dollars, but here's 50.
Because we stuck them in the middle of people who hate them 50 years ago and now we feel responsible for protecting them.
(and it sucks...9/11 happened because of our support for Israel)
We give the same amount to Egypt. We have plenty of money for our defense. Some of it should go to education and health care.
don't get me started on how much we've blown on Iraq
America loves Israel. Bush loves Israel. it is one of the major reasons we keep ourselves in the region.
if you are american then, they give money to israel because they know that israel will play important role in fighting because it's in asia and have greater reach to iran and iraq kind of countries so think after these your self.
This is the type of questions you need to ask yourself the next time you vote.
Absolute idiots. Sometimes you have to wonder what really goes into their reasoning, or are there any thinking going on at all.... I can't wait for the 08 elections.
We don't have money for our defense? I wonder what happened to that trillion dollar budget of ours. Your statement is ABSURD.
Because foreigners (Chinese et al) are still buying our Treasury Bills and our politicians have absolutely no (NONE ZIP NADA ZERO) financial knowledge (must have knowledge, first, to get to the self-discipline discussion) - our politicans are mortgaging our future with all the debt they're piling up - the interest on which will compete with Social Security & Medicare payouts for Baby Boomers to mean taxes will have to be more than 100% of income to cover it all.
Being in the military for over 10 years , I learned that there is a big intrest in Israel for the U.S.A.
INTELLIGENCE.Israel provide the U.S. with intelligence about middle east affairs.
and trust me.it is for our best intrest to lend and support Israel.
While I was on the service...We received several intelligence report from the Israel gov. that prevent many, many lost of lives. I now know how that it works.
yeah education and health care like obama said. and the caller from nevada on c-span1. but we should have money to defend ourselves not go off and attack someone and have a war. we are spending most of our money on this war. its crazy. support our troops.
It is because Israel is in the middle east and since there are many countries at war with each other in the middle east, israel needs more money to defend its self. Also Israel is an ally of the USA. And the USA supports their allies. However it is a pretty dumb *** thing for the USA to do.
Actually we have the largest military budget in the world and if you add up the next four nations budgets they still do not equal ours. We give money and military equipment to our allies and enemies in order to better insure that our larger enemies never get an upper hand. We are trying to insure the sustainability of Democracy, which involves being able to protect both defensively and offensively. We have more than ample defenses, though right now we are in a restructuring phase when it comes to repairs and updating our military.
This nation kisses Israel's butt a lot because it's our only pro-Western ally in the Middle East. Israel is America's puppet in the Middle East.
The United States is more concerned with Middle Eastern affairs than domestic issues. We're quick to donate money to Israel, but it takes the federal government 4 days to respond to Katrina.
We're just trying to buy Israel's alliance so we can have control from within in the Middle Eastern theater.
That's a good question to ask the president. But I don't think he knows. Just think of how we could use the money here helping our American families with health care, affordable housing, education, food, clothes. We have so many people losing their jobs not for poor job performance, but because the big companies don't want to pay you what your worth and would rather hire someone else to do your job for less money. They call it down sizing but what they really do is change the the wording in your job description and hire someone else at a lower wage. Go figure!
That would be a good question to ask our country's lawmakers, would'nt it?
